Benahavís is a mountain village perched 200 metres above sea level, just seven kilometres inland from the Costa del Sol. It is best known — and justifiably so — as the dining capital of the Costa del Sol, with more restaurants per capita than almost any other town in Andalusia. The village itself is a maze of narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses, and flower-filled plazas, while the surrounding mountains are home to some of the most exclusive villa estates on the entire coast, including La Zagaleta, El Madroñal, and the Monte Halcones area.

The dual character of Benahavís is what makes it so compelling. The village centre, with its fortress ruins, 16th-century church, and dense cluster of excellent restaurants, is authentically Andalusian. Yet the surrounding hills hide ultra-luxury villa developments that rival anything in Marbella. The dining scene is the area's standout feature: restaurants like Amanhavis, Los Abrazos, and La Escalera de Tossa have earned Benahavís a reputation that draws food lovers from along the entire coast. The surrounding natural park — the Sierra de las Nieves foothills — offers hiking, cycling, and stunning mountain scenery just minutes from the village.

Benahavís is 55 minutes from Málaga Airport and 10 minutes from Puerto Banús and the coast. The village is reached via a well-maintained mountain road from the N-340. A car is recommended, though taxis are readily available. The nearest beaches are at San Pedro de Alcántara (10 minutes) and Guadalmina (10 minutes). Golf courses including Los Arqueros, Guadalmina, and the courses of La Zagaleta are within a 10-minute drive. The village itself has all basic amenities, including a pharmacy, small supermarket, and of course, its famous restaurants.
